Inclusive Philosophy
We, at Billabong, Thane, believe that all students have tremendous innate talent and this should be brought forth in an inclusive manner. In keeping with this philosophy, we admit students with a wide array of challenges – cebral palsy, autism, visual impairment et al. Shadow teachers are allowed to accompany children to enable seamless integration in the classroom.
The Number Game
Numbers matter. Hence we have restricted the students strength in each class to 25 on the average. Also, the teacher-student ratio is 1: 18. Thus, each student is given personal attention. In the pre-primary section, there are two teachers in each class. At Billabong, Thane, each student is a rough diamond who can and will be polished to perfection.
Teaching Staff
Every member of the faculty is qualified to teach the subject they teach. As a part of our `learning for life’ philosophy we enhance their capabilities through a continuous a skill upgradation programme. We depute our teachers to workshops and seminars in other institutions to give them wider exposure. Also, some of our teachers are resource people for the board-level apart from being examiners.
LIBRARY AND RESOURCE CENTRE
We have two well- equipped libraries catering to the reading and research needs of students. The libraries form an organic part of the academic programme and play an important role in improving overall excellence. In keeping with the tech needs of today we have four IT centres, including one at the pre-school level.
STUDENT CAMPUS
All Classrooms are air-conditioned, bright, cheerful and naturally lit. The ambience is created to uplift the learning experience of each student. We have also installed smart boards in each classroom. There are five science labs; two for the middle school and three for the high school. There are also two art rooms catering to the needs of the artistically-inclined. The infra facilities are also hygienic and user-friendly. Cafe Riddhik provides wholesome and hygienic food prepared on eco-friendly stoves and in a clean atmosphere.
Transport Facility
We have a fleet of several buses plying over 35 routes ferrying children from as far as Bhiwandi and Powai. Each bus has a lady attendant and has a GPS system fitted in it. The school authorities monitor the movement of each bus in real time. The drivers are trained in safe driving.
Co-curricular Activities
It is a unique programme, offered by Billabong High, which is woven into the curriculum framework . Facilities offered in this are - Speech and Drama, Jazz, Taekwondo, Skating, Chess, Basket Ball or Cricket, Table Tennis, Gymnastics, Dance and Music. Every child is expected to take up at least two activities per year.
Communication Matrix
This is a network of SMSes as well as Educomp system for communicating with parents and all stake holders. This is supplemented with circulars etc in hard copy. However, by this year-end we hope to have paperless communication.
